Val Cenis Termignon benefits from an extraordinary heritage which offers residents and tourists a whole range of enriching activities. The association aims to protect and enhance it. Natural heritage first and foremost: our exceptionally beautiful landscapes are full of treasures. The mountain offers a wide variety of rocks, which we showcase through geological walks and the "Termignon au fil des roches" exhibition, accompanied by a brochure. The flora abounds in magnificent flowers, a variety of trees and shrubs and medicinal plants, all of which have been on display since 2016 on the Voie des Plantes (Path of Plants), an interpretation trail following the old Salt Road from the Villard bridge.
Then there's the architectural heritage: numerous oratories, chapels and calvaries line the footpaths, providing an added attraction for walkers. But many of these buildings are in a state of disrepair and need a great deal of upkeep: our team of volunteers has undertaken to identify and restore them.
The jewel of Savoyard Baroque, the parish church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption, has been the subject of a restoration campaign led by the association and Val-Cenis town council, in partnership with the Fondation du Patrimoine. A new agreement with the Fondation now enables us to organise a subscription campaign to renovate the Saint-André chapel and its precious altarpiece by Jean Clappier, which is seriously threatened by the damp affecting the building.
The main thrust of our work today is the creation of ETAP (Explorer Termignon à pied), a network of itineraries guiding walkers to discover different aspects of our heritage. ETAP 1, to be inaugurated in June 2023, will wind its way through the streets of the village to tell its story. Other itineraries will eventually radiate out from the heart of the village across the vast territory of our historic municipality.
Our annual events include the organisation of Termignon's "World Cleanup Day" and participation in the Termignon fair, held on the first Sunday in October.
Many residents and visitors are involved in these activities, and anyone can get involved by joining the Association.
