Description
Stars and storms is the story of the ascent of the six most famous north faces in the Alps, which every mountaineer still dreams of: Dru, Grandes Jorasses, Eiger, Matterhorn, Piz Badile and Cima Grande di Lavaredo. These walls, conquered between 1931 and 1938, are the quintessence of high difficulty mountaineering, and Gaston Rebuffat was the first guide to have climbed all six of them. It's also the story of the devouring vocation of a young man from Marseilles, who became the most famous of contemporary mountaineers.
It is also, despite the sometimes dramatic episodes, the luminous tale of a profoundly human adventure, for the high mountains according to Rebuffat are above all a matter of friendship, for the men as well as for the summits. More than any other, the author has the gift of transmitting that mysterious passion called mountaineering. Gaston Rebuffat inspired many a guide and mountaineer in the 1970s.
