Description
Association for the promotion of the current and past heritage of Bessans. To discover the nature, the culture, the history, the traditions and the topicality of a particularly attractive place and its inhabitants. Bessans, a village in the Haute-Maurienne region, at the extreme limit of high-altitude living, where Savoyard and Piedmontese influences come together, has long preserved its traditions.
Its heritage is significant from both a historical and linguistic point of view. It preserves the traces of a singular way of life.
This has led to a considerable amount of research and archiving in the form of photos, films, sound recordings, written documents, object collections... etc.
This very rich collection is published and exhibited in the form of magazine issues, books, exhibitions and various events, all of which can be seen on the abundantly documented and interactive website.
BJA is also interested in the evolution of the village from a purely agropastoral settlement to a Nordic sports and hiking resort.
The association's public presence is particularly intense at summer events (conferences, outings, stands, exhibitions). Communication with members and interested parties is maintained via the BJA website.
