Description
Beware, romance! The charm of the ruins and the beauty of the site are bound to inspire you. The ruins of this romantic fort, destroyed by Napoleon III when Savoy was annexed to France in 1860, invite you to meditate.
The fort can be admired from the outside, as the instability of the monument makes the visit dangerous.
The barrier of Esseillon was built at the beginning of the 19th century to protect against French invasions. The five Sardinian forts that make it up bear the names of the sovereigns of the Savoy family. These structures, built according to the architectural principles of Montalembert, bear witness to an architecture that is unique in France.
