Description
The specific Alzheimer's care units (USA), opened in March 2014, are specialized accommodation facilities (EHPAD). These are protected, secure care areas reserved for residents with Alzheimer's or related diseases, who are able to move around independently without the use of a wheelchair. The USA can accommodate 28 residents.
Admission is based on a medical and administrative file. The establishment is eligible for social assistance, personalized autonomy allowance (ADPA) and housing allowance.
The USA's mission is to support residents and their families throughout the course of their illness, as long as they are still able to move around independently, while respecting their habits and lifestyle.
The professionals involved
The EHPAD's coordinating doctor and health executive are responsible for running the service and organizing care. A life project is drawn up for each resident, in collaboration with the team and the family, to enable them to continue living in EHPAD in accordance with their wishes.
Nurses monitor residents' state of health in conjunction with the doctors who work at the facility. Nurses' aides take care of hygiene and comfort, while ASHs look after the upkeep of the premises and provide meals. Residents also benefit from the services of a physiotherapist and a psychologist. Two entertainers organize activities and support for residents, and organize numerous festivities.
